Who We Are
Hey there — I’m Judy Ortega, founder of Ortega Dog Training and a certified dog trainer and behavior specialist. For over 6 years, I’ve worked with over a thousand dogs (and their humans), helping them move from stress and frustration to understanding and confidence.
I’m certified through CPDT-KA, CPDT-KSA, FFC, and PCBC, and I’m an AKC evaluator and judge, which means I’m qualified to assess temperament, award Canine Good Citizen certifications, and work with everything from basic obedience to complex behavioral issues. I specialize in cases like:

What We Do
But beyond the certifications, what really sets my training apart is the philosophy behind it.
I use a method called choice-based reinforcement, originally developed to help children learn to self-regulate. It works just as powerfully with dogs. Instead of focusing on commands and corrections, this approach teaches dogs how to think critically, make independent decisions, and become more confident — all through positive reinforcement and thoughtful setup.
The result? Training that feels less like a bootcamp and more like a conversation.
